Position title: Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Responsibilities include:
Numet is looking for a Senior Design Engineer familiar with design of specialized tooling, structural assemblies, and pressure retaining equipment. Numet services the Nuclear industry with supply of custom designed systems, structures, and components, and design and engineering services, for both power generation and waste management.
The following skills and experience are required:
- Experience with design, analysis, and tolerancing for custom shop-fabricated weldments and structural assemblies.
- Machine design experience, including sizing, evaluation and selection of mechanical components (motors, gear boxes, bearings, etc.), fits and tolerances, applicable codes and standards.
- Excellent technical writing and verbal English communication skills required. Preparation of detailed design reports, specifications, and other documents is a requirement.
- Ability to coordinate activities of other engineers, and to understand and address technical issues for various disciplines (mechanical, electrical, controls).
- Experience working within the guidelines of Quality Programs (NQA-1, CSA Z299, CSA N286.2), including QA on design and engineering activities, would be an asset.
- Experience with the design of remote handling equipment for radiation environments an asset.
- Experience with the design of radiation shielding an asset.
- Experience with detailed design and analysis of pressure-retaining process equipment and systems (pressure vessels, heat exchangers, pumps, piping) to international codes and standards required...ASME Sec III (Nuclear) experience preferred, but similar (ASME Sec. VIII, B31.1, API standards) acceptable.
- License with the APEO required. Minimum 10 years experience post-graduation from engineering or applied science program.
The successful candidate would be expected to contribute the following:
- Interpret customer product specifications, and ensure that the requirements are carried into detailed design and manufacturing documents to meet the specification requirements.
- Provide project engineering supervision and technical support to an equipment design team to develop custom engineered solutions to meet customer specifications.
- Prepare or review project-specific design and quality assurance documentation.
- Evaluate mechanical equipment specifications.
- Interface with various clients and regulatory authorities.
- Research technical information and applicable codes and standards related to product development.
- Evaluate potential opportunities for future work and provide technical support for tender preparation.
- Provide technical support for fabrication activities.
