Shielded Flask and Transportation Trolley
The Project
Dedicated custom flasks are used for containment and shielding of radioactive byproducts from a multitude of different reactor maintenance activities. Operators must frequently transport these flasks within confined spaces and with limited handling equipment available. This Shielded Flask and Transportation Trolley system provided by Numet Engineering is compact, provides good maneuverability, and has a low center of gravity for tipping stability, while handling up to 14 000 lbs of load.
The Solution
A standard commercial tow-motor can be used to pull or push this three-wheeled trolley. It is designed to easily traverse a variety of floor conditions while carrying up to 14000 lb loads.
The compact design allows the unit to maneuver into very confined locations and travel through tight cornered hallways.
Side rails allow the installation of personnel shielding to minimize radiation exposure to the operator.
