Fuelling Machine D2O Valve Stations
The Project
On-line refuelling of CANDU reactors requires the use of remote controlled fuelling machines, which use D2O as their hydraulic medium. The intricate process control configuration for the Fuelling Machine’s D2O operated actuators are packaged in these D2O Valve Stations.
The Solution
The D2O Valve Station contains piping and components designed to control flow and pressure of D2O to the F/M (Process Panel) and control its D2O operated actuators (Actuator Panel). It contains piping and components designed to control flow and pressure of D2O to the F/M rehearsal channel.
The system consists of a hydraulic system (PCVs, flow and pressure transmitters, control valves, ball valves, accumulators) and a pneumatic system (actuators, pressure switches, etc.).
The piping and instrumentation systems in the valve stations are a mixture of several different ASME code Sections and Classes, each with their own differing procurement, manufacturing, testing, and inspection requirements.
Project Responsibility Highlights
- Fabrication of valve station support structure, support brackets and clamps, piping subassemblies and components.
- Installation of D2O and pneumatic tubing and equipment.
- Installation of device wiring, junction boxes, and interconnecting cables.
- Hydrostatic and air leak testing, liquid penetrant inspection.
- Flushing and flow testing of completed panels.
- Drying and packaging for overseas shipment.
- Extensive performance testing.
