Flame Arrestors
Introduction
Numet flame arrestors are high pressure rated components that are used to prevent the propagation of flame fronts in process piping.
On occurrence of a flame condition, the flame arrester rapidly removes enough heat from the traveling flame front to ensure quenching of the flame.
|
|
Numet flame arrestors are thus designed to have a large thermal mass and a high coefficient of heat transfer. in addition to being a high pressure rated component.
General Applications
In general, flame arrestors are installed upstream and downstream of possible ignition sources in piping systems containing flammable gases
Typical Systems
Some typical systems that use flame arrestors are:
- upstream and downstream of catalytic recombiner systems
- exhaust systems ejecting combustible gases to atmosphere
- tritium recovery and removal systems
- hydrogen generators for fuel cells
- cover gas systems in reactors where radiolytic breakdown of water occurs, resulting in the production of hydrogen and oxygen
